Leading Parenting Company Kids2 Launches Minority-Owned Children’s Brand Little Muffincakes With Target
The collection of affordable and diverse baby essentials will soon be available in mass retailers
Little Muffincakes was born out of Founder and Owner Debra Raney’s difficulty finding products for her children and grandchildren that displayed characters who looked like them. Given her belief that positive representation is fundamental for developing a child’s self-esteem, she became frustrated in the lack of baby items showcasing brown skin and sought out to create her own. With the aspiration to provide families of color with products that would be foundational to their child’s self-acceptance, Raney’s aims paired perfectly with Kids2’s mission of delivering tiny wins to parents that promise bright futures for their children.
A licensing relationship was established in June of 2021 through Kids2 Direct, which leverages Kids2’s design and manufacturing expertise. The resulting collections, named after children close to Raney, Zhara and Ashton, highlight artwork of little boys and girls of color to not only reflect the diversity of children, but also offer representation and pride to parents of color. Products will include a swaddle, burp cloths, bibs, blankets, crib sheet, changing pad cover, and lovey toy.
“When Debra first approached us with Little Muffincakes, she already had the interest of Target behind her. Her challenge was scaling the production of her small business to suit the inventory needs of one of America’s biggest and most popular retailers,” said Ryan Gunnigle, CEO and Owner of Kids2. “Kids2 is committed to helping create brighter futures for innovative companies founded by parents, and we have the resources and capabilities to support Little Muffincakes in ways they need. We were thrilled to have the opportunity to work alongside Debra on collections and help her bring her vision and amazing products to stores around the world.”
In addition to being the parent company to three large globally recognized juvenile brands, Kids2 has a strong belief in partnering with likeminded companies that are designing unique solutions for the next generation of parents. About Little Muffincakes
Little Muffincakes is an essentials brand focused on filling gaps in the marketplace. Owner and Founder, Debra Raney, created the brand out of sheer necessity and passion. After many shopping trips preparing for the birth of her first grandchild, she was reminded of the lack of diversity as it relates to babies. She decided in 2016 to be the change she wanted to see in the world and created a character-based brand that celebrates children of color. She wanted to provide parents the opportunity to purchase products that were curated with relatable imagery for their little ones.
Little Muffincakes’ brand not only strives to reflect the beauty of diversity in products but to ultimately lay the foundations for self-love, self-esteem, and self-confidence because “Representation Matters From Birth.”
